Refund, Returns and Warranty Policy

Overview

BuyRefurb is committed to upholding your rights under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 (CPA). This policy explains your rights and our obligations regarding returns, refunds, and warranties for all products purchased from BuyRefurb, whether at regular or sale prices.

Your Rights Under the Consumer Protection Act

In terms of Section 55 and Section 56 of the CPA, every consumer has the right to receive goods that are:

  • Of good quality, in good working order, and free of defects
  • Reasonably suitable for the purpose for which they are generally intended
  • Safe and fit for the specific purpose communicated at the time of purchase
  • Accurately described and matching the product listing

If goods do not meet these requirements, you are entitled — within 6 months of delivery — to return them and choose one of the following remedies: repair, replacement, or a full refund. BuyRefurb may first elect to repair or replace; however, if the repaired/replaced item is still defective, you have the right to demand a full refund.

Return Eligibility

Defective or incorrect goods (CPA Section 56): You may return goods within 6 months of delivery if they are found to be defective, not fit for purpose, or not as described. BuyRefurb will cover the cost of return shipping in such cases.

Unwanted goods (CPA Section 44 — Direct Marketing Cooling-off): If your purchase was the result of direct marketing, you have the right to cancel and return the goods within 5 business days of delivery at no penalty. For standard in-store or online purchases, returns of non-defective items are accepted within 7 days in original condition and packaging, subject to a reasonable handling fee.

To be eligible for a return, your item must:

  • Be accompanied by proof of purchase (receipt or order confirmation)
  • Be in the same condition as received (for non-defective returns)
  • Not fall under the exclusions listed below

Exclusions — When Returns Do Not Apply

The following damage types fall outside our warranty and return policy, as they result from customer misuse or external causes — not product defects. Please note: these exclusions do not override your CPA rights where a manufacturing defect exists.

  • Electrical faults caused by power surges, lightning, or use of an incorrect power source
  • Water or liquid damage
  • Physical damage caused by the customer (drops, cracks, breakage)
  • Damage resulting from unauthorised hardware modifications (e.g., RAM upgrades performed without proper anti-static precautions)
  • Software-related issues, virus damage, or operating system failures not attributable to hardware defects

Sale Items

In full compliance with the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008, your consumer rights apply equally to sale, promotional, and discounted items. BuyRefurb does not exclude sale items from return or refund eligibility. If a sale item is defective, not fit for purpose, or not as described, you are entitled to the same remedies (repair, replacement, or refund) as you would be for a regular-priced item.

Return Shipping Costs

  • Defective or incorrect items: BuyRefurb will arrange and cover the cost of return shipping.
  • Non-defective / change-of-mind returns: The customer is responsible for return shipping costs. We recommend using a trackable shipping service. BuyRefurb cannot be held liable for items lost in transit without tracking.

Refunds

Once your return is received and inspected, we will notify you by email of the outcome. If approved, your refund will be processed to your original payment method within 5–10 business days.

Late or missing refunds: If you have not received your refund after 10 business days, please check with your bank or card provider first, as processing times vary. If you are still unable to locate your refund, contact us at sa***@**********co.za.

Exchanges

We will exchange items that are defective, damaged, or not as described. If you require an exchange, contact us at sa***@**********co.za or call 011 794 1778 to arrange the process.
